Another passion project of mine is Prescription Backhand- a story that balances on the tightrope of sci-fi and magic. The main characters are in the mission phase of their education, and are helping out the floating city of Helia- which stays afloat using natural gasses.

To be honest, I’ve always wanted to make my own version of Harry Potter, only in a sci-fi setting- using knowledge of technology instead of magic. I think it’d be so much more fun to play with principles of theiry, rather than pure fantasy. That’s the catalyst for this series.

I’d love to lean into the retro anime/ Ghibli aesthetic a bit more in this series, with the serious background serving as a catalyst for character development and expression. Of course, the premise will always rely on our trusted young heroes doing the right thing.

The main characters must be young enough to be relatable to a teen audience, while mature and tough enough to stand their own in the real world. They must be able to drive a flying vehicle, while also learning the ins and outs of local corruption.

The first few pages I experimented with on this series have felt like some of my most competent so far. With a bit more practice, I can see the first issue of this comic being very visually successful.
